The Lodge

We are located in an exceptional area along the banks of the Saint John River in Gaspé, Québec. The original buildings, constructed in the early 1900’s, had been situated on the opposite side of the River. They were unfortunately destroyed in a forest fire that swept through the area in August of 1960. Construction on the new lodge began in the spring of 1961 and we occupy these same buildings today. We are able to accommodate 4 anglers, each in a private room. Bedrooms are located on either end of the lodge with a central dining room – living room area. Three of the bedrooms have single occupancy and the fourth has a double bed. All rooms have private bathroom facilities and shower. Each bedroom also has a wood-burning fireplace stove to keep you nice and warm on those rainy days or cooler nights.

We have been a member of the Québec Outfitters Federation for many years and we ensure the satisfaction, comfort and safety of all our guests. Cellular phone use is possible only in certain locations, such as elevated areas. In case of an emergency or an important message from home or office we have a reliable telephone service. The regional hospital is also located only thirty-five minutes from the Club.

Good angling is an important aspect of any fishing trip but great food is something high on our list as well. We purchase the freshest ingredients that we can find in the area. Located near Rivière-au-Renard, the fishing capital of Québec, we have a great choice in seafood, such as halibut, lobster, cod and sea scallop. You will have to try the chef’s famous Saturday night roast beef, cheese soufflé served at lunch or fresh Québec leg of lamb for dinner. Enjoy hors d’oeuvres in front of a nice wood fire in the dining room or on the front deck overlooking Home Pool.

After your arrival at the Club you can speak to the chef and make the choices for your menu, taking into consideration your preferences and dietary needs. Bar fridges are well stocked with mixes, beer, fruit juices and a variety of carbonated drinks. The Club does not provide wine and spirits but there is a well-stocked liquor store only a short drive into town.

You will begin your day with an enjoyable and hearty breakfast at 8:00 AM. After a great morning on the River all anglers return for lunch at 1:00 PM. A full course dinner is served each evening and the hour may be agreed upon in advance with the kitchen, but should be served no later than 8:00 PM.

At the Saint John Salmon Club we reserve fishing trips for groups of four anglers. These trips are divided into a half-week or a full week stay. For half-week trips guests generally arrive around noon on Sunday, in time for the one o’clock lunch and may fish until Wednesday evening at 6:30 PM. If departing on the Wednesday afternoon flight with Air Canada you would have to terminate your day a bit earlier.

Guests reserving a trip for the last part of the week are invited to arrive late Wednesday afternoon. This will give you time to settle in and have a nice evening dinner. Fishing will begin bright and early the following morning and continue to Sunday at 12:00 noon. If travelling with Air Canada and arriving on the noon flight on Wednesday, you will be met by a member of our staff and driven to the Club. You may also choose to take in other activities in town that afternoon.

For groups of four people reserving a full week of angling, arrival time again would be at noon on Sunday and fishing would continue through the week until noon the following Sunday. We ask that members of the outgoing party be packed and free up their rooms by 1:00 PM on Sunday.

Our trips include accommodation at the lodge, all meals, fishing and professional guide service and transportation during your stay with us. Sales taxes must be added to all fishing trips and gratuities are not included in our prices. You may also refer to the document, Information for Members and Guests, which is available in both languages and can be found in the News & River Reports section of this website.

The outfitter assumes no liability in the event of accidents or delays caused by weather or other condition beyond their control.
